DATE: Victorian, c.1870

An impeccably designed High Victorian oval memorial locket in 18 karat gold and finished in black and white enamel. The front features a garter motif with crossed ribbons emblazoned with the words NOT LOST BUT GONE BEFORE. It's bordered by a laurel wreath in white enamel, and finished in intricate hand-chased detailing all over the front and back. Inside are two glass-fronted oval compartments with photos of an elderly couple inside, presumably a past owner's parents. It's great quality, and modelled in 18 karat gold throughout.
